Residential Garbage Collection in Village of Gilberts

Residential Trash Service
MDC Environmental Services provides Gilberts residents with a 95-gallon waste container, specifically designed to accommodate the needs of larger families and households that generate higher volumes of waste. Overage or extras can be placed in bags or personal cans not exceeding 32 gallons or 50 pounds. Replacement or additional totes are available for a fee.

Residential Recycling in Gilberts
MDC recycling service in Gilberts is unlimited. Each household is supplied with a 65-gallon recycling toter, specifically designed to handle various recyclable materials efficiently. It is important to note that trash cans are not an acceptable alternative for storing or setting out recycling. Using the designated toter ensures proper collection and processing, supporting the community's commitment to sustainable practices. Additional toters are available for a fee.
Recyclables should be placed loose in the container. They should not be bagged and no plastic bags should be included in the recycling tote. Cardboard should be broken down to 3 ft. x 3 ft. or smaller and bundled if excessive. Do not cram other items into cardboard boxes.
Yard Waste Pickup in Village of Gilberts
Seasonal household yard waste service for Gilberts residents takes place each year from April through the first Friday in December. An unlimited amount of properly prepared yard waste bags, bundles, or resident owned 33 gallon rigid containers (not exceeding 50 pounds in weight) will be collected curbside each week.
Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines, bark and wood chips may be placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled pick up day in biodegradable paper bags or 33 gallon metal or plastic cans clearly identified for landscape waste only. Bags must be rolled and crimped closed and be easily lifted to waist height and not exceed 50lbs. Residents also have the option to rent a 95 gallon cart from MDC for an annual fee
Brush and branches up to 6 inches must be bundled with twine (wire or plastic is not acceptable) 4' or less in length and 2' or less in diameter at the base and easily lifted to waist height. Yard waste does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood or animal waste.
No plastic bags of any kind will be accepted for pick up.
Natural Christmas tree collection occurs curing the month of January.
Bulky Items & White Goods Collection in Gilberts
Unlimited bulk items (under 50 pounds) will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection day at no charge. Bulk items exceeding 50 pounds will require an additional fee. Contact us to schedule a collection.
Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste). No construction waste accepted.
Oversized and overweight items will be collected but will require an additional fee. Oversized/overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that will require the resident to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. A per item fee of will apply for each oversized item. Contact us to schedule a pick up in advance.
White Goods will be collected on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection for an additional fee of $40.00/per item. Regardless of size and weight, all appliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up and payment must be received in advance. Call MDC at 815-568-7274 to schedule a collection. Items should not be placed at the curb until the evening before the confirmed scheduled collection.
